I decided to write this talk because I commonly come across the perception that user research is expensive, time consuming and out of reach for many organisations. This leaves many organisations entirely without insight about their users, their needs, and their experiences.
Without that insight, we're often left building products and services based on our managers personal opinion, or our clients specifications. For many designers and developers, this can leave us feeling unfilled at the end of the day. We never know if we're building useful things for our users, and our expertise and knowledge often gets ignored during the design process.
So, I wanted to talk about some of the opportunities for user research that most designers and developers just aren’t aware of. During this talk I discuss three methods; all are cheap, easy to implement, and can used straight away on almost any project existing project.
